Leicestershire based Graphic Design and Website Design Agency Masters Allen have designed and built a new promotional website for Pluvius Sport Service Limited.

Pluvius, based in Warwick, in the heart of the country, have supplied over 100 cricket clubs with their sports ground equipment, proving to be one of the top specialist providers within their field.

The new website was commissioned to promote the Pluvius range of products online both to new and existing customers, requiring a clean, modern and easy to navigate website presence.

Focussing heavily on market research, Masters Allen established a solid understanding of target markets and the niche sector, in order to deliver creative designs to their audience.

The website was optimised for the search engines for the key search phrases extensively within the build and already performs well within the organic search results.

“The website needed to reflect the established Pluvius brand, whilst utilising strong cricket imagery and a bold emphasis on quality products and service, synonymous with the Pluvius name.” Sean Masters, Creative Director at Masters Allen.

This new website was launched in June 2010 in readiness for the new cricket season, giving Pluvius every opportunity to promote their brand online throughout the summer and into the coming years.

A new web domain is on it’s way. The brand new .co domain name extension offers a new and varied range of possibilities. Whether you’re a company, committee of community, the .co will offer an alternative to .co.uk. But will it replace it? Probably not, .co.uk domains are the domain extension of choice for UK businesses. It may work well for individuals own name domains, or perhaps a brand name in a competitive space. They are also more expensive than .co.uk domains!

Either way, if you want to book yours then let us know and we can reserve it for you.

Masters Allen are on the hunt for a talented Web Developer to join our expanding team.

The successful candidate will join the web development team in our busy studio, working on a variety of projects, with focus on technical development. Exposure to ‘open source’ software such as Magento, Drupal or Joomla, plus experience with ecommerce software would be an advantage, but not essential as training will be provided. Part of the candidate’s role will include support and solving technical problems that arise.

So, who are we looking for?
Someone who enjoys expanding their technical web development skills, with forward thinking web technologies. Who is not afraid of challenging work in a deadline driven environment. Who has a keen eye for detail and an inquisitive mind. Who has a couple of years commercial experience (unless you are a technical genius) in website development. Who is looking to develop their career within a young, but fast growing agency.

Key skills
PHP, MYSQL, JavaScript, CSS, HTML, AJAX or jQuery. Plus basic Photoshop and Dreaweaver skills.

Experience
Ideally we are looking for someone with a minimum of 2 years commercial experience in website development, programming and experience of SQL. Knowledge of Object Oriented programming would be an advantage, as well as any Linux scripting or command line experience.

If you feel you are the right candidate for us, then please email your CV and salary expectations to vacancies@mastersallen.co.uk

No agency applications thanks.

You may be aware of the very successful ‘Compare the Meerkat’ campaign, informing you of the confusion between two similar sounding sites. But were you aware of their fully functioning website that allows you to compare meerkats, watch meerkat videos and fully immerse yourself in the world of meerkats!

It hadn’t occurred to me that the creators would go to the extent of creating a website to accompany the concept. But then when I began read about the campaign as a whole and understand the scope, I found it works on so many levels, across a multitude of media.

The standout from other competitors in the market has been a great success “Times Online reports, citing Hitwise stats, that the site increased its market share of UK insurance comparison site visits by 76 percent since the campaign was launched in December 2008.” With the ongoing viral campaigns, tv ads, soft toys of the characters (you can even follow Aleksandr on twitter), it seems that the campaign still has the legs to carry it on throughout this year – All this from a concept concived by a couple of drunk creatives in a pub who decided that Compare The Market sounded quite similar to Compare The Meerkat. …simples!

It’s that time of year again, the festive season is upon us. For those of you with ‘typographic’ loving friends, family or colleagues, (mustn’t forget the secret santa) a solution is at hand! Below are a few items we have stumbled across that may appeal to the discerning graphic design lover or you may even want to add to your own wish-list.

Checking the time just got interesting. The font clock designed by Sebastian Wrong is a 21st century take on the British 24 hour clock design icon. Twelve different fonts are printed within the mechanism of the clock providing a random, mixed display of graphic language within a single time piece. Available in three sizes.

These typographic pillows would look great in any type lover’s interior. The eclectic designs that make up the collection of Bonjour Mon Coussin are inspired by found vintage documents, postcards or drawn from the creators’ own world.

The latest in the popular series of typography based calendars from Japan. The new Typeface calendar 2010 edition features the Calson 540 typeface, a 1902 variation of the original William Caslon design, considered to be one of the first English typefaces.

If design isn’t your cup of tea, (excuse the pun) this mug might not be for you! The kerning mug is an ideal gift if you want to impress your colleagues on your return from the christmas break, at least for a day or so.

.

Over recent years we’ve seen a shift in where businesses focus their marketing activities. Advertising spend online topped that of offline spend for the first time this year as companies are now fighting to find their space online, rather in traditional media.

So what do this mean for the typical business owner? Well they suddenly need to think about how to put together an online marketing plan. Do you sign up to Facebook? What about online PR? Should you start Pay Par Click advertising or create a Banner Ad? What about Blogging, RSS or Feeds?

All of a sudden, an understanding of a variety of new technologies is critical to taking advantage of the online marketing opportunities. No longer can you simply write a new plan and then carry it out. You need to either take on an Online Marketing Manager or find a suitable company to manage it all for you. Outsourcing your online marketing might be the right way forward as you would be taking on the expertise of a number of specialists and at the same time, drastically reducing the monthly outgoings required.

Either way the new technologies cannot be ignored, perhaps the first step is to start talking to someone who can help to shape the online marketing plan and to focus on the right places online to start marketing.

January next year, the Royal Mail will be issuing a collection of stamps depicting 10 classic British album covers as shown below. The stamps will be uniquely shaped to accommodate a vinyl disc poking out of each record sleeve.

They are (clockwise from top left): Pink Floyd’s The Division Bell / Coldplay’s A Rush of Blood to the Head / Blur’s Parklife / New Order’s Power Corruption & Lies / the Rolling Stones’ Let It Bleed / David Bowie’s The Rise and Fall Of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars / Primal Scream’s Screamadelica / Led Zeppelin’s IV / Mike Oldfield’s Tubular Bells / the Clash’s London Calling.

It’s a shame that the classic first album ‘Step One’ from Steps didn’t make it into the final cut …maybe next time.
